BS ISO/IEC 17799:2000
National foreword
This British Standard reproduces verbatim ISOíIEC 17'799:2000 and implements it as
the UK national standard. It supersedes BS 7799-1: 1999 which is withdrawn.
The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to mittee
ISTL33, IT - Security techniques, which has the responsibility to:
- aid enquirers to understand the text;
- present to the responsible intedo&mittee any enquiries
on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep the UK interests
informed;
- monitor related international and European developments and promulgate
them in the UK.
A list anizations represented on mittee can be obtained on request to
its secretaty.
BS 7799-1:1999 was submitted as the proposed text for an intemational standard on
Information Security Management using the ISOLEC JTC 1 fast-ak procedure.
Dunng the resolution ments phase of the development, it was agreed that the
international standard would be considered as a single part standard until such time
that further submissionddevelopments are produced. For the purposes of
implementation in the UK the British Standard has been dual numbered as:
BS ISO/IEC 177992000 UK implementation of the intedonal standard
BS 7799-1:2000 Retention of the original British Standard identifier
As part of the implementation in the UK national annex NA (informative) has been
included to enable users of the existing British Standard BS 7799-1: 1999 to quickly
identify the changes between it and BS ISO/IEC 17799:2000.
