Abstract: T he microstructure and mineral compositio n of the ex pansiv e soil alo ng Shiy an to T ianshui ex pressway in L ongnan
District were analyzed thoug h scanning elect ron micro sco pe ( SEM ) experiments and X2ra y diff ractio n( XRD ) experiments, and
the ex pansio n pro perties of ex pansiv e so il in this district w ere analyzed. A cco rding to the ex periment result s, the ex pansiv e soil
particles basically presented as lam inas w ith or witho ut bending , w hich show ed the properties of montmo rillo nite mineral part i2
cles o r mix ed2 layer mineral particles o f montmorillonite and illite; L amellifo rm mineral particles were contact ed surface to sur2
face, and there w ere small ga ps amo ng the mineral particles; T he mineral composition o f this expansive so il was analyzed qualita2
tively and quantitativ ely , w hich show ed small pro perty of montmorillonit e and large pro pert y of illite, kaolinite and quartz. Based
on the ex periment results above, the ex pansive soil along Shiyan to T ianshui ex pr
