国际电子商务师认证委员会（中国）研发中心作为非赢利性组织在2004年对高校电子商务专业学生和自学考试电子商务专业学生进行了就业情况的调查。结果显示：截止到2004年6月15日，电子商务专业应届毕业生就业率为20%，但在2003年6月中旬教育部公布的全国普通高校毕业生就业签约率已达47%，可见，电子商务专业应届毕业生就业率远远低于全国大学生就业平均水平。

劳动和社会保障部部长郑斯林曾在北京表示：劳动和社会保障部门将力争2004年全国应届毕业生在9月1日前平均就业率达到70%以上。目前电子商务专业应届毕业生就业率距此目标差距很大。
“关于毕业生的就业率现在还不是很好评测”，中央财经大学电子商务系主任林政博士接受笔者采访时说，“拿我们学校来说，今年有电子商务专业毕业生，其中2/3考研，虽然也在找工作，但如果考上研究生就继续上学了。”
