50 Years of Engineering Management Through the
Lens of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS

Abstract—As the IEEE (née IRE)TRANSACTIONS ON
ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT celebrates its 50th anniversary,
we look back to see how the journal has progressed over the
yearsFFF Begun as an outlet for the thoughts on management
of IRE members primarily from industry, the TRANSACTIONS
soon became a recognized scholarly journal. At the same time,
in the opinion of the authors, it has retained its relevance to
practitioners, while maintaining academic rigor. Tracing the
frequency of occurrence of various topics contained in the pages
of the TRANSACTIONS provides an interesting history of the
field that we call Engineering or Technology Management. It is
interesting to see how different subjects grew and occasionally
receded in interest.
