17世纪中期,英语中才出现Risk,源自法文Risque,意思是航海于危崖间,而法文一词来源于意大利语Risicare,意思是胆敢,该词汇(意)又来源于希腊文Risa
一般含义:风险是事物结果发生的不确定性。风险是结果中的潜在变化(Arthur Williams)
The Concise Oxford English Dictionary defines risk as “hazard, a chance of bad consequences, loss or exposure to mischance”.
Risk relates strongly to uncertainty, and hence to the notion of randomness. In 1933 A. N. Kolmogorov gave an axiomatic definition of randomness and probability

Risk refers to the possibility that events may turn out differently from those which are expected.
Risk is the unpredictability that actual results may differ from predicted results.
Risk is the e of an event when two or more possibilities exist.(mittee on Insurance Terminology 1966)
德国学者斯塔德勒把风险定义为“影响给付或意外事故发生的可能性”。

Risk is possibility of failing to meet objectives.
Risk is a chance of something happening that will have an impact upon objectives。
Risk refers to the uncertainty of future events and es measured by likelihood and impact. The impact had the potential to influence the achievements of anization’s objective.
风险不仅是指损失发生的可能性,也表示收益与机会发生的可能性,风险是损失与机会、损失与机遇、成本与收益的组合,是风险事件积极结果与消极结果的结合体。

以玛丽·道格拉斯和维尔达沃斯基为代表的人类学者、文化学者把风险定义为一个群体对危险的认知,它是社会结构本身具有的功能,其作用是辨别群体所处环境的危险性。
道格拉斯认为“风险应该被视为关于未来的知识与对于最期望的未来所持共识的共同产物”.
社会学家卢曼的定义与道格拉斯等人的类似,也认为风险是一种认知或理解的形式。同时认为,风险是具有时间规定性的概念。
艾瓦尔德认为:“任何事情本身都不是风险,世界上也本无风险。但是在另一方面,任何事情都能成为风险,这有赖于人们如何分析危险,考虑事件。”

风险与不确定性
Uncertainty is s state of not knowing whether a proportion is true or false.
Richard Phillips认为,不确定性源于无法预测未来结果的困惑;不确定性来源于风险的存在,风险的存在导致不确定性的存在。(Skipper教材第20页)
不确定性可分为主观不确定性和客观不确定性(顾孟迪,《风险管理》,清华大学出版社)
不确定性的来源有四个:测度的不确定;模型的不确定;未来时间的不确定;来自解读的不确定性(Rowe, 1994)
