Application of ceramic membrane in the extraction of lipstatin, an intermediate of orlistat

Abstract: Ceramic membrane technology was applied in the ethanol dialysis of Lipophilic lipstatin from
fermentation broth for the first time. Based on permeation flux of ceramic membrane and ethanol
consumption, the basic parameters and methods for extraction of lipstatin were determined: ceramic
membrane with pore size of 50 nm, membrane surface velocity of 5 m/s, mean transmembrane pressure of
MPa, when the fermentation broth was concentrated 2 times, 95% ethanol was fed continuously at a rate
consist with the permeation flux to maintain a constant volume of the circulating fermentation broth, the
permeation flux was first collected when the ethanol content reached 55%, total ethanol consumption were 2
