文档介绍:The Routledge Dictionary of
Anthropologists
The Routledge Dictionary of Anthropologists provides a Who’s Who of anthropologists from
the birth of the discipline in the eenth century to the present day. Over three hundred of
the most influential and significant figures in world anthropology are discussed, from the
precursors of anthropology, such as Darwin, through celebrated figures such as Evans-
Pritchard and Margaret Mead, to lesser-known and more controversial names such as Arthur
Maurice Hocart and Carlos Castaneda. The entries provide details of each anthropologist’s
life and work, theories and publications.
The fourteen chapters are arranged by national traditions and schools of thought, and cover a
wide geographical area including the United Kingdom, the United States, Europe, Latin
America and Asia. Each section includes a brief history of the national school under review
and places the anthropologists within the framework of their peers and the key thinkers who
influenced their thought.
The Routledge Dictionary of Anthropologists features:
• Chapters arranged by national traditions
• An introduction to each section outlining the prominent features of the anthropological
movements
• Cross-references of names and schools of thought
• A thorough index to assist in locating entries quickly and easily
• Selected bibliographies at the end of each chapter
Written by an experienced social anthropologist, The Routledge Dictionary of Anthropologists
will prove indispensable for students of the discipline and those with an interest in ethnology
and sociology.
