I think Mandarin is more useful. There are around 80 completely different dialects in China. If we don’t learn Mandarin, we may find it hard or even impossible to communicate with people from different parts of China. For example, last semester most of our classmates had a hard time in math class because the math teacher had so strong an accent that it prevented us from understanding his lecture. To some of us, his strong accent not only meant a lot of inconvenience but also led to our failure in the final.
