Numerical calculation and optimization of flow regime in the inlet forepool of a lateral pump
station

Abstract: To optimize the flow state of the inlet forepool of the lateral pump station and eliminate the influence
of the bad flow patterns on the pump suction, numerical calculation is used to analyze the flow patterns of the inlet
sump of the pumping station, based on which, the rectification scheme is proposed to arrange diversion grid with
different sizes at the inlet of the inlet sump , and the flow state of the inlet pool after rectification is analyzed. The
calculation results indicate that, the rectification measures of the guide grid have a certain rectification effect, it
could make the stream flow into the inlet pool through the guide grid more smoothly, and improve the drift
phenomenon in the 1#～4# inlet pool, which create good water absorption conditions for the a
comprehensive comparison and analysis, the rectification scheme with "3+2" type combination layout form wasadopted. This rectification scheme could stabilize the uneven coefficients of the five inlet tanks and reduce the
uneven coefficients of flow velocity compared with those of the original scheme. The rectification effect is obvious.
