¾ China's inflation rate rose at its slowest pace in nine months in November, kept in check by lower price rises for
food and easing the pressure for further interest rate hikes. According to the NBS, the November Consumer Price
Index (CPI) was up per cent year-on-year, compared with per cent in October and per cent in November
2003. Urban consumer prices in November rose per cent year-on-year, while rural CPI was up per cent.
¾ Automobile production grew by per cent at lakh units in November 2004. The positive growth is attributed
to the higher demand in the commercial vehicle segment. The commercial vehicle segment grew at per cent
while passenger cars and buses recorded a growth of per cent and per cent respectively.
¾ Charade from the Daihatsu stable was the top selling car in the month of November followed by Elantra and Jetta
which constituted per cent and per cent of the total vehicles sold.
¾ According to the Ministry of Commerce and General Administration of Customs, China will revoke the practice of
licensing imports of cars, key auto parts and compact disc manufacturing equipment beginning January 1, 2005. This
is inline with China’s commitment to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
