The University of Manchester is a public research university in Manchester, England. It was formed in 2004 by the amalgamation(合并) of the Victoria University of Manchester and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
The main site is south of Manchester city centre on Oxford Road in Chorlton-on-Medlock.
In 2012, the university had around 39,000 students and 10,400 staff, making it the largest single-site university in the United Kingdom.
