文档介绍:Origins and History
Christianity began as an offshoot of Judaism, and includes the Hebrew Bible (known to Christians as the Old Testament) as well as the New Testament as its canonized scriptures. Like Judaism and Islam, Christianity is classified as an Abrahamic religion (亚伯拉罕宗教).
The name “Christian”, meaning “belonging to Christ” or “partisan of Christ”, was first applied to the disciples in Antioch安提俄克, as recorded in Acts 11:26. The earliest recorded use of the term "Christianity" is by Ignatius of Antioch.
The history of Christianity is the history of the Christian religion and Church, from Jesus and his Twelve Apostles to contemporary times.
In the mid-first century, Christianity spread beyond its Jewish origins under the leadership of the Apostles, especially Peter and Paul.
In 301 Christianity became a state-religion in Armenia being the first country to accept Christianity.
Christianity spread east to Asia and throughout the Roman Empire.
为了方便起见,很多史学家都将教会的历史分成三段。第一段是初期教会史,由基督及使徒建立教会开始,直到第六世纪末年。
二段的教会历史便是由主后五百九十年(即贵格利一世即位那年)开始,直至主后一五一七年马丁路德发动改教运动为止。史学家称这段历史为中古教会史。第三便是现代教会史,由改教运动开始,一直到二十世纪的今天。
Christianity
Although Christianity has always had a significant diversity of belief on bordering issues, most Christians share mon set of doctrines that they hold as essential to their faith.
Christianity
As indicated by the name “Christianity”, the focus of Christian theology is a belief in Jesus as the Son of God and the Messiah(弥赛亚,犹太人所期待的救世主) or Christ. The title "Messiah" comes from a Hebrew word meaning anointed one. The Greek translation (Christos) is the source of the English word Christ.
