Thereleaseofaloadduetofailureofliftingaccessoriessuchasslingsortheircomponentpartsputsatriskeitherdirectlyorindirectlythelifeorhealthofthosepersonswithinthedangerzoneofliftingequipment.
InordertoprovidethenecessarystrengthanddurabilityofliftingaccessoriesthisPartofEN818laysdownrequirementsforthedesign,selectionofmaterialsofconstructionandtestingtoensurethatspecifiedlevelsofperformancearemet.
FatiguefailurehasnotbeenidentifiedasahazardforalltypesofchainhavingthespecifiedlevelsofperformancegiveninthisPartofEN818whenusedingeneralliftingservice.
SincefailurecanbecausedbytheincorrectchoiceofgradeandspecificationofliftingaccessoriesthisPartofEN818alsogivestherequirementsformarkingandthemanufacturerscertificate.
Theriskofinjuryduetosharpedges,sharpanglesorroughsurfaceswhenhandlingisalsocoveredbythisPartofEN818.
ThoseaspectsofsafeuseassociatedwithgoodpracticearegiveninprEN818-6.
