Lubricant layer to reduce friction between therecording head and the media.
Carbon film that provides corrosion protection to the ic structure.
Structure that stores the ic transitions (the digital 0’s and 1’s). Typically Co-Cr-PtB alloys
A controlled surface finish, in terms of roughness and scratch orientation (circumferential). Helps to provide orientation to the ic film structure and improve signal to noise (SNR).
Provides seed layer for the ic film structure.
Helps to improve adhesion of the ic structure to the substrate, and improves the ic properties of the overall structure. Typically Chrome and Chrome-Tungsten alloys.
