Daniel Defoe (丹尼尔. 笛福, 1660-1731)
Birth and family: Born in London, a butcher’s family.
Education: attended a ‘dissenting新教的’school where position is stressed.

In 1703 was arrested and pilloried(处以枷刑)
1704-1713 for nearly 10 years, he wrote and produced the periodical The Review of the Affairs of France almost single-handedly.
1719 Robinson Crusoe was published—marked new period in his literary career.
