Purpose:
This procedure sets forth the basic requirements of controlling the sharp tools throughout the manufacturing process.
Scope:
This procedure applies to all vendors who supply products to Sainsbury’s.
Coverage:
Sharp tools include:
· Pins
· Needle
· Knife (no razors, no knifes with detachable cutting blade)
· Scissors and clippers
· Needles for tag guns
Procedure:
1. Pins must be excluded from all production areas; alternatives should be sought (. tape, adhesives, clamps) where it is needed.
2. The scissors and clippers should be tied to the workplace to prevent the potential lost and mix into the production items. Replacement of scissors and clippers should be on a one for one basis. Scissors and clippers not in use should be kept in a secure place by a factory manager nominated responsible person.
3. For the factories that involve the use of sewing machines, the needle(s) in the machine must be the only needle(s) available to the sewing operator. The sewing operator should hold no spare needle.
4. A nominated responsible person appointed by the production manager should hold all spare needles. The issuing of needles must be on a one new needle for one old needle basis.
5. Old or worn needles should be disposed of in sealed containers.
6. If a needle breaks, all parts of the needle should be recovered before the
