Creating character through sustainable and essful landscape design

Abstract: The concept of Eco-towns has aroused great interest but has also generated considerable scepticism and opposition. However, what is indisputable is that the physical context of essful eco-towns – how these are designed, the landscape features and the impressions the scheme makes in terms of ‘look and feel’– is critical to building a scheme’s character, contributing to its ess as a sustainable, attractive and enjoyable place to live. This article will identify best practice in landscape design and architecture from PRP’s recent European research project and include 1-2 of PRP’s current landscape projects, using these to illustrate how best practice is being applied essfully today.
