1 SCOPE
This standard specifies performance requirements and test methods of motor vehicle head
restraints.
This standard applies to the head restraints for front and outside seats of vehicles of category M1.

3 Definitions
Head restraint
A resilient device that limits the rearward displacement of occupant’s head in relation to his torso
in order to reduce the danger of injury to the cervical vertebrae of that occupant in the event of an
accident.
Headform
A 165mm diameter sphericity or semi-sphericity rigid form, and its effective mass at its center of
percussion when giving dynamic test is .
Back pan
A loaded plate with curved surface corresponding to the back surface of the torso of the manikin
specified in standard GB/T 11559.
Seat center plane
A seat design reference plane which is decided by the plane of symmetry of the 3DH machine
corresponding to a fiftieth percentile adult male prescribed in GB/T 11559 when it is positioned
in a seat as with GB/T 11563
