元代来到中载也较多,但是对此的研究却很少。本文通过梳理中西方关于元大都的文献,比较其异同,并讨论其产生的原因。论文首先对西方人的东方意象以及中西方的城市差异进行溯源,然后梳理分析中外有关元大都的文献,指出中西方在理解元大都上的文化差异,结合这些来探讨中西方在元大都形象上的文化视角的不同。
本论文通过详细的梳理与分析,得出西方人笔下元大都与中国本身形象不同的原因有二,一是他们的远东意象是建立在他们长期交往的中东形象上的,二是他们无法理解中国建筑所蕴含的中国传统文化。除此之外,论文还通过分析比较这些中西方文献来探讨元代的文化背景,认为元代并非像传统观念所说那样,是一个少数民族统治的文化相对落后的朝代,只是它的文化需求与倾向不同于中国的其他朝代。

Abstract
Many Westerners viSited China during the Yuan Dynasty (1271—1368)and left a lot of 1iterature on the capital city of the DynastY known as ,studies on Yuandadu are few SO thesiS attemptS pare the similarities and differences between the images of Yuandadu in the Western and Eastern literatures and explore the possible reasons for the thesis first diSCUSses the origin of the、、oriental image”in the West as well as the different concepts of city between the West and the East,and then,by sorting out and analyzing the Western and the Eastern 1iteratures on Yuandadu, examines the differences in representing the image of Yuandadu between the East and the attention iS paid to the differences in cultural perspective in the East and the West respectively.
ThiS study finds two maj or reasons that explain the difference in the Yuandadu image as shown in the Western and Eastern ,the western image of the Far East iS established on the basiS of the image of the Middle East formed through their long-term contacts,and second,due to their lack of knowledge about traditional Chinese culture, these westerners tend to misunderstand the cultural
connotations behind the Chinese buildings in addition,thiS study alSO examines the cultural background of the Yuan Dynasty,and suggests that it should not be treated as relatively backward dynasty in terms of cultural develOpment,and rather it should be understood as a dynasty with unique cultural needs and tendencies in the history of China.
