PMP GM-3810
Attachment B:
Introduction
The New Equipment Technical specifications are based on the PMP strategies identified
under Planned Maintenance and are designed to eliminate the “six big Losses” associated
with machine and equipment downtime:
! Equipment failure losses
! Setup and adjust losses
! Losses due to idling and minor stoppage
! Operating at reduced speeds
! Process defect losses
! Reduced yields due to poor quality
Machinery and equipment design shall allow for visual inspection of operating parameters,
with the inspection to plete within a minute or less. The inspection to be conducted
must provide information about the equipment’s normal and/or abnormal operating status.
Machinery and equipment design shall allow correction of abnormalities for fine-tuning.
(. adding lubrication or adjusting air pressure without removing guarding or shutting off
power, well at the same plying GM Safety Standards.
New Machinery and Equipment Technical
Specifications (general applications)

existing machinery and equipment. (See PMP Manual QN-2833)
2. Machinery and equipment shall include design-in features to facilitate quick inspection
and diagnostics to detect wear. (. pressure gage outside the normal operating range)
3. Use of transparent windows, where feasible, to facilitate inspections.
(. transparent/plastic guarding. (Refer to page )
4. Machine design shall display system functions visually. (See PMP Manual QN-2833)
5. Guarding should be designed for ease and timely removal and installation, while meeting
