Abstract
This paper discusses the ongoing work of the project P815, Communications Process Integration using Software Agents. The paper outlines the requirements of modern and future businesses on workflow management tools and systems and then describes how agent technologies can be used to meet these requirements. Case studies are used within the project to demonstrate how agent and workflow technologies can bined to produce a new approach called agent-oriented workflow management. These case studies cover the creation of IN services and the provisioning of multi-carrier leased lines. Interim prototypes for both case studies have been built and initial results show that the use of agents in workflow management is very promising. The remainder of the project, expected to pleted April 2000, will broaden the application of agents and based on the experiences gained produce a framework for deploying agent-oriented workflow
