Abstract
The Mid-Tang Dynasty is another pinnacle in the cultural history of Tang Dynasty.
During that period, a lot of excellent authors appeared who left a lot of precious literature
heritage.
Recently plentiful production has been achieved in the research of Mid-Tang Dynasty
literature. But it must been pointed out that the research focused on the topping writers
such as Han Yu, Liu Zongyuan and Bai Juyi, while the unfamous writers such as Ouyang
Zhan was ignored and was less studied. Especially the basic research about the writers’
life is least. In fact the unfamous writers were an important part of that period. It is very
significant to study them to deepen the research of Mid-Tang Dynasty literature.
In this paper the fundamental introduction of Ouyang Zhan is given. Based on the
corpus of Ouyang Zhan and Xin Tang Shu Ouyang Zhan Zhuan and Ouyang Sheng
lament which was written by Han Yu, through the method of the mutual testifying of
culture and literature, took the relating peotry anthology, history and geography literature
as reference, the information about Ouyang Zhan’s family and life is introduced. It can be
affirmed that Ouyang Zhan was born in 757 . and died in 801 . he studied and
lived in Quanzhou before he was 30 years old. After that, he began to leave his hometown
for other places .After many efforts, he passed the imperial examinations in 792
he did not obtain a high official position, only acted as the Si Men teaching assistant of
Guo Zi Jian, and finally died in an alien land. Ouyang Zhan’s articles were mainly created
in Zhen yuan period, and most of them were about petition and responsory .From them we
can know his experience of examination and tour. At the same time, there are many era
elements of that period in his articles, we can know some information about politics,
economy, culture, folk-custom and so on of that time.
