This paper presents some lens system design
and re-engineering experimentations with ge-
netic algorithms and ic programming.
These Evolutionary Algorithms (EA) were n n n
essfully applied to a design problem that 0 1 2
was previously presented to expert partici-
pants of an international lens design confer- t d t
ence. Comparative results demonstrate that 1 1 2
the use of EA for lens system design is very
much petitive. Figure 1: Parameters of a Two Lenses System. The ni
variables denote the refractive indexes of the media,
the ci represent the lens surface curvatures, the ti are
1 INTRODUCTION the lens thicknesses, and d1 is the lens spacing.
Designing a lens system is plex task currently
done by experimented optical engineers, using CAD an object of a certain size, at a certain distance, its
tools that can optimize a roughly shaped design. The function is to produce an image of this object. Al-
