CSA Preface
This is the third edition of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-IS0 9001, Qua&y management systems -
Requirements, which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled IS0 (International
Organization for Standardization) Standard 9001:2000 (third edition, 2000-l 2-l 5). This CSA Standard
supersedes CSA Standards CANKSA-IS0 9001-94 (adopted IS0 9001 :1994), Quality systems - Model
for quality assurance in design, development, production, instai/ation and servicing; CANICSA-IS0 9002-94
(adopted IS0 9002:1994), Qua/@ systems - Model for quality assurance in production, installation and
servicing; and CANKSA-IS0 9003-94 (adopted IS0 9003:1994), Qua&y systems - Model for ~uaii~
assurance in final inspection and test.
The IS0 9000 and IS0 10000 family of Standards was developed by quality experts from around the
world, under the auspices of the anization for Standardization (ISO) Technical
Committee 176. Canada plays a major role in this area. The mittee is chaired by a
Canadian. The Secretariat of lSO/TC 176 is held by CSA on behalf of Canada’s member body in ISO, the
Standards Council of Canada.
Canadian stakeholders participate actively in the admini~tion and development of the IS0 9000 an
IS0 10000 family of International Standards, through CSA’s forum for national consensus in the
development of Standards. The CSA mittee on Quality Management is the source of
Canadian experts and public input for the IS0 9000 and IS0 10000 Standards. In its capacity as
Canadian mittee to lSO/TC 176 (CAC/lSO/TC 176), the mittee is
responsible for
(a) developing and submitting coordinated Canadian responses, comments, and voting actions on
ISOlrC 176 documents;
(b) developing and submitting Canadian proposals for new international work items;
(c) mending the Canadian delegates to
