刻意曲解的语用研究

A Pragmatic Analysis of Deliberate Misinterpretation

摘要

刻意曲解是日常言语交际中一种特殊的语用策略。它是听话人完全正确地
理解说话人的真实意图,但却有意利用某种特殊的语境和说话人话语中含糊的
表达方式,歪曲说话人的话语意图的语言行为。通过这种方式听话人能够实现
其交际目的。
本文从回顾和总结刻意曲解的前期研究出发,以语用学理论和原则为基础,
即 Brown 和 Levinson 的面子理论,Leech 的礼貌原则,Grice 的合作原则,
Austin 的言语行为理论以及 Sperber 和 Wilson 的关联理论,对刻意曲解进
行了系统的语用分析。文章以大量生活中的会话实例为语料、通过定性研究详
细地分析了刻意曲解的触发机制、实现方式和语用效应。刻意曲解有其独特的
触发机制,说话者一的语言不定性、说话者一的言语间接性和含蓄性、交际者
的共同知识背景、说话者二的特殊意图以及语境的扩张都可以作为刻意曲解实
现的前提和条件。刻意曲解的实现方式丰富多样,刻意忽视语境、说毫无疑义
的话、过分忠实于字面意义、转换话题、扭曲原义和创造新涵义都有助于刻意
曲解得到有效的实现。刻意曲解的运用可以产生正面和负面的语用效应,制造
幽默、打破僵局、维护面子、保护隐私和拒绝请求等正面效应可以带来更高效
的语言交际,造成误解以及引起反感等负面效应会导致人际关系的恶化。
总而言之,本文对刻意曲解的语用研究是对其进行诠释的一种有效方式。
它将有助于指导日常生活中的语言交际活动,能为人们如何正确使用刻意曲解
来达到交际目的和保证交际的顺利进行提供准则。

A Pragmatic Analysis of Deliberate Misinterpretation

Abstract

Deliberate misinterpretation (DMI for short) is a special pragmatic strategy in
daily munication. It occurs when the hearer correctly pletely
understands the intended meaning of the speaker, but deliberately distorts the
speaker’s original meaning by making use of a special context or the ambiguous
expressions in the speaker’s utterances. By doing this, the hearer achieves his own
communicative goals.
Beginning with a review and conclusion of the previous studies on DMI
conducted both at home and abroad, the present dissertation makes a systematically
pragmatic analysis of DMI based on some major pragmatic theories and principles,
., Brown & Levinson’s Face Theory, Leech’s Politeness Principle, Grice’s
Cooperative Principle, Austin’s Speech Act Theory and Sperber & Wilson’s
Relevance Theory. The triggering mechanism, realization ways and pragmatic effects
of DMI are analyzed in detail through qualitative study with many daily
conversational examples as data base. DMI has its unique triggering mechanism.
