Transfer of Training
The anization
1
Transfer of learning
Refers to trainees effectively and continually applying what they learned in training (knowledge, skills, behaviors, cognitive strategies) to their jobs.
Training Design
2
Training Design
Training design refers to factors built into the training program to increase the chances that transfer of training will occur.
For transfer of training to occur we need to apply:
Characteristics of good design
Transfer of training theories
Principles of self – management
A model of the transfer process

Application of transfer of training theory
Theory of Identical Element: propose that transfer of training occurs when what is being learned in the training session is identical to what the trainee has to perform on the job (the task, material, equipment, and other characteristic of the learning environment). For example, firefighting, hostage rescue, airline pilot.
Stimulus generalization approach
5
Application of transfer of training theory (continued)
Stimulus generalization approach suggests that the way to understand the transfer of training issue is to construct training so that the most important features or general principles are emphasized. For example, managerial skill.
Key behavior: refer to a set of behaviors that can be used essfully in a wide variety of situations.
Cognitive theory of transfer
6
Application of transfer of training theory (continued)
Cognitive theory of transfer: is based on the information processing model.
This theory suggests that the likelihood of transfer is enhanced by providing the trainee with
