This month, I'm concluding this series by looking at
some techniques for making your work with Pro
Tools faster and more efficient, and revealing
some lesser-known shortcuts and tricks. I'm also
devoting a sizeable chunk to the subject of
integrating software synths and other applications
with the Pro Tools software, as this is an mon user requirement which is
not dealt with in the Pro Tools reference manual.
Getting Around
The number one way to speed up editing in Pro Tools has nothing to do with cutting up
audio; it's simply to hone your skills at moving around the session. As the Pro Tools Edit
Window is bined arrangement and editing environment, editors typically find
themselves moving between widely varying levels of horizontal and vertical zoom. This can
be slow and tedious if you rely on using the Zoomer tool (because it means changing tool),
or the Zoom buttons (which work in small steps and require you to keep moving the mouse
to the top of the screen). Advances in Pro Tools and now have provided some
cool ways to speed up the zooming process. Top of this list are the new functions for the
'E', 'R
