ABSTRACT Elastic multi-structures have wide applications in structural engineering. Based on some existing results in the literature, this thesis discusses the ?nite element method and numerical simulation for elastic body-plate structures. The mathematical model is ?rst introduced by means of the variational principle, and then two ?nite element methods are proposed for solving such a problem (Mor- ley element method and TRUNC element method). Concretely, displacements on bodies and longitudinal displacements on plates are discretized using conforming linear elements, transverse displacements on plates are discretized respectively us- ing Morley elements or TRUNC elements, and the discrete displacement ?elds in individual elastic members are coupled together by some feasible interface con- ditions. The error analysis is established for the TRUNC element method, putational formulations for deriving the stiffness matrix and the load force are derived for the Morley element method. By virtue of the MATLAB software package, a number of numerical experiments are suggested to illustrate the effec- tiveness and ef?ciency of the proposed methods.
