ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Throughout my PhD years at Drexel University, I feel so fortunate to have met many
knowledgeable individuals who have given me lots of valuable guidance, assistance, and
support. Without their help, it is impossible for me to finish my doctorate journey. I would
like to express my sincere gratitude to them.
First, my most genuine appreciation is given to my dissertation and research advisor Dr.
Yen Wei, for his tremendous efforts in directing me to plish several challenging
projects. I am deeply impressed with his inspiration, vision, knowledge, and energy. From
fundamental to frontier scientific landscapes, what I have learned from him is way beyond
what words can express.
I would like to thank Dr. Peter I. Lelkes, the other mentor of mine, for his precious
guidance and patience with my work in tissue engineering. His enthusiasm and sparkling
ideas have significantly broadened my horizons and helped to extend my interest to multi-
disciplinary area.
My thanks are also given to my oral candidacy and/or mittee members,
Dr. Karl Sohlberg, Dr. Sally Solomon, Dr. Daniel King, Dr. Robert Hutchins, Dr. Jean-
Claude Bradley, Dr. Guoliang Yang, Dr. Shu Yang and Dr. Reinhard Schweitzer-Stenner
