Climax, as a figure of speech, is derived from the Greek word for” ladder,” and implies the progression of thought at a uniform or almost uniform rate of significance or intensity, like the steps of a ladder ascending evenly. The essful construction of this figure depends much on the character of the thought itself as well as a mand of vocabulary.
The right words must be chosen to convey the thought in an ascending order of force and intensity, from weak to strong, from light to weight.
Climax is widely employed by speakers and writers,. and in persuasive speech or writing, it is extremely effective in stirring up feelings and emotions, or in driving home a point.
The following are well-known examples:
came, I saw, I conquered.
