I. Warm-up questions (15 mins)
Ask the following questions in class and invite some students to answer them. Students are encouraged to give different answers voluntarily.
Warm-up questions:
What do you think freshmen might be afraid of? What do you think the parents of freshmen might be worried about?
Have you ever lived independently before? If yes, when and why did you live independently? If no, have you ever dreamt of it?
Do you like to study in a university in your hometown or far away from your home? Why?
What will you do if you are homesick or feel lonely?
Warm-up questions:
In adapting to the new college life, what aspects do you find rather difficult?
Which do you think is more important for students at institution of higher learning, to acquire knowledge from books or to gain knowledge from society?
How can you help those who feel frustrated and depressed because they have lagged behind in their studies?
Can you list the advantages and disadvantages of living on campus and living off campus?

II. Group Work: problem solving (25 mins)
Step 1 List the categories of problems that students may encounter at university on the board. Such as, study, financial problem, relations with others, etc.

Step 2 Divide the class into groups of four. Assign each group a specific category for discussion. Each group, with the help of the related words and phrases, is required to list in detail the problems relevant to the category given to them and tries hard to offer advice or solutions to these problems.
