Abstract—The feed forward loop (FFL) is one of the most transcriptional regulatory interactions in an FFL has either
important “network motifs” in works. Here we positive sign (activation) or negative sign (repression). Thus,
have numerically studied the response of eight ic the motif can be in eight possible configurations which are of
FFLs to external oscillatory signals. We find that, for the two types: coherent and incoherent. In a coherent FFL, the sign
first gene X, the pure fluctuation resonance (FR) occurs at of the direct regulation path from X to Z is the same as the
overall sign of the indirect regulation path via Y, which is
2ω0. For the second gene Y, the FR curves have some, but
little difference between the positive and negative different in an incoherent FFL. The protein x and y regulates
regulation types of Y by X. The FR curves of the third gene the target gene Z through either an AND-gate or an OR-gate. In
the first case, both the x and y proteins are required for the

protein synthesis of the gene Z, while in the second case, either
