Abstract
With the rise of munication, the study of intercultural adaptation is
receiving more attention from scholars. However, as Gu Jiazu (1998) has mentioned
before, scholars are likely to neglect the role of literary works in the intercultural
communication, leading to relatively slack development of its studies. Thus, exploring
literary works can reveal covert culture, which is difficult to ascertain, and provide more
insights for intercultural adaptation.
Amy Tan’s novel The Bonesetter’s Daughter is a kind of literary work deserved to be
analyzed because of its great significance on the intercultural adaptation. It not only
provides materials for text analysis in literary world, but also shows the development of
author’s attitude towards different cultures and her thinking of cultural pluralism. As one
of the possible es of intercultural adaptation, cultural pluralism or multiculturalism
and its influencing factors enjoy great sig
