Abstract: mon format for data files and exchange medium used for the interchange of vari-
ous types of fault, test, or simulation data for electrical power systems is defined. Sources of tran-
sient data are described, and the case of diskettes as an exchange medium is mended.
Issues of sampling rates, filters, and sample rate conversions for transient data being exchanged
are discussed. Files for data exchange are specified, as is anization of the data. A sample
file is given.
Keywords: configuration file, data file, header file, information file, transient data.

IEEE Standards documents are developed within the IEEE Societies and the Standards -
mittees of the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) Standards Board. Members of mittees serve
voluntarily and pensation. They are not necessarily members of the Institute. The standards
developed within IEEE represent a consensus of the broad expertise on the subject within the Institute as
well as those activities outside of IEEE that have expressed an interest in participating in the development of
the standard.
