It is also regarded as one of the four major Summer Holiday Destinations in China. The beautiful beach of Beidaihe was designated to be Summer Imperial Retreat destination in 1898 during Qing Dynasty. In the early 50’ s, Beidaihe was chosen to be summer office and retreat destination for Chinese Central Government; In 1999, Beidaihe was awarded “ China Outstanding Tourism City ” and “ National Garden City ”. 北戴河的自然与人文景观甚多,有著名的山海关老龙头风景区,有秦代行宫遗址、汉武台遗址,明代古刹观音寺,鸽子窝公园等,已形成了联峰山、中海滩、东山三大风景区群组,距清东陵、祖山、长寿山仅 60 公里。北戴河又是中国第一个候鸟保护区,是世界上观赏候鸟最佳地点之一。 There are many natural and cultural tourist spots exist in Beidaihe area. Shanhaiguan Old Dragon Head Scenic Area, Qing Dynasty Summer Palace Remains, Hanwutai Remains, Ming Dynasty Guanyin Temple, Dove Nest Park and a few other destinations have already formed three Scenic Areas called Lianfeng Mountain, Middle Beach and East Mountain. Beidaihe is only 60 Kilometers away from Qing Dynasty East Tomb, Zu Mountain and Changchou Mountain. In addition, Beidaihe is the first Seasonal Bird Protection Zone in China, it is one of the best area to observe Seasonal Bird.
