“践行‘读写’教育，创建特色学校”的理念。
2015年4月，大堡子小学历史上第一次有了自己个性鲜明、自豪响亮的教育品牌——“读写”教育。
通过近六年的不懈努力，学校现有教学班18个，在校学生近900名，教职工54人。学校多名教师被评为骨干教师、教学能手、先进工作者、优秀教师；一项国家级、一项市级、一项区级课题立项研究；学校荣获全国青少年普法教育活动优秀组织奖、第十六届全国“华罗庚金杯”少年数学邀请赛团体二等奖，青海省中小学教师培训基地、青海省绿色学校、青海省乡村少年宫学校、中国儿童少年盛威中国芯计算机表演赛青海赛区优秀奖、城北区文明单位、城北区教育系统年度目标考核一等奖、城北区教育系统优秀党支部、城北区教学管理先进单位、城北区团队先进单位、城北区五四少先大队文明单位等奖项。并在省市区级体育、艺术、科技创新和读书等各类活动中百花齐放，使学校办学形象得以提升。
将来的我们——虽然我校已经行走在“读写”教育路上，但是我们深知，尚未建成真正的特色学校、全优学校。然而，我们的探索行走的意义在于脚踏实地地搞好“酝酿”与“积淀”工作，为学校“读写”教育特色学校创建奠定坚实的基础。借西宁市开展特色学校创建的良好契机，我校将继续践行“读写”教育，不断吸纳“读写”教育的新成果，真正形成成熟模式和独特风格，精心打造真正具有核心教育竞争力的“读写”教育特色学校。
