“原始史料”和“辅助的史料”两种。其20世纪30年代的代表作两卷本《中国哲学史》更进而划定了中国哲学史史料的五个选取标准③，并注重总结古代著述体裁。这两项工作分别是对中国哲学史史料范围和史料特点的探讨。1937年，冯先生在《怎样研究中国哲学史？》的文章中又提出原料、副料和旁料的史料三分法。然而，代表他在中国哲学史史料学学科上集中成就的却是其《初稿》。而我们之所以认为冯氏是中国哲学史史料学学科地位的确立者，亦主要是基于其《初稿》对该学科之划时代的贡献。
《初稿》基本确立了“中国哲学史史料学”的写作范式。
从内容看，冯著可以分为两个部分：第一部分包括第一章“史料学的范围和内容”和第二章“论目录”，讲史料学理论；第二部分包括第三章至第十四章，是介绍哲学典籍的具体史料学。查看冯著之后的中国哲学史史料学专著，我们可以发现，它们基本都遵循了此种二分的写作范式，只是在内容上不断的丰富和完善，史料学理论部分的规模也呈日益增大之势。我们认为，这种趋势的出现和冯友兰先生是有一定关系的。在《初稿》第一章，他给史料学下了一个定义：“史料学是历史科学中的一个部门，为历史学的研究作准备工作，是关于史料的方法论。”④
虽然冯先生在其著作里并没有很好地贯彻这一定义，即他没有着重讲述“关于史料的方法论”，而是偏向于具体哲学史料的宣介，但是他的这一卓越见解却为中国哲学史史料学指示了研究方向。如上所述，史料学理论部分的规模呈日益增大之势，这表明学界对之重视程度日益增加。
