Introduction
puter has played a large part in advancing technology innovation in many part of science and industry. In some areas however, those which tend to consist of problems requiring significant input from human expert for their solution, it has been of more limited ess. The development puter systems which can manipulate experience and knowledge is leading to puter application in branches of mining that have, so far, failed to benefit substantially puter technology. These ‘Expert Systems’, which originated in major research problems aimed at developing ‘Artificial Intelligence’, are no longer research tools but mercially available problem-solving aids which can be utilized in a wide range of application.
Expertise and Knowledge
Changes in technology are occurring at an accelerating rate. In the past,time is available for engineers and management to e accustomed to new equipment and techniques. Today, even the most plished experts in a field often have difficulty keeping pace with the fine details of advances. Two researches, expertise and knowledge, can be identified as being especially critical in a rapidly changing technologically-based world.
Expertise
An expert is a person who has had sufficient exposure to a subject, such that he has developed expertise in that subject this expertise, or know-how, utilized by the expert during the course of his duties. An exponential-type growth in technology, together with prolonged training experience gathering periods(10 to 15 years for most experts) is leading to the ‘Expertise Vacuum’. True experts are in short supply and cannot be produced quickly enough to keep pace with the technology explosion.
Knowledge
Assuming that an expert knows how to carry out a particular task, it is important that he has sufficient information, or knowledge, about a particular problem when teying to make decisions. Managers, for example, usually wish for more information before mak
