These papers I refer to analyze the application of rhetoric in English verbal communication, from the perspective of the violation of the four maxims of CP. I think it’s very useful, because we are in a intercommunicational world, knowing the principle and the rhetorical devices can make our communication more acceptable and well integrated into the world..
After referring to these papers, I will divide my paper into three parts. In the first part, I will present the theories of Cooperative Principle and rhetoric. It’s a further literature review of the study. In the second part, I will illustrate them with some examples to make them clear, and analyzes the examples concretely. The last part is the conclusion, in which some limitations and outlook are also mentioned.
