one reason or another. when this happens, the listener should perceive the difference between what the speaker says and what he means by what he says, the particular meaning deduced for the implicature. These papers I refer to analyze the application of rhetoric in English verbal communication, from the perspective of the violation of the four maxims of CP. I think it’s very useful, because we are in a intercommunicational world, knowing the principle and the rhetorical devices can make our communication more acceptable and well integrated into the world..
After referring to these papers, I will divide my paper into three parts. In the first part, I will present the theories of Cooperative Principle and rhetoric. It’s a further literature review of the study. In the second part, I will illustrate them with some examples to make them clear, and analyzes the examples concretely. The last part is the conclusion, in which some limitations and outlook are also mentioned.
