Konstantin V. Frolov, scientist, academician, and patriarch of national engineering science, passed away on
18 November 2007, in Moscow, after a serious illness. He was 76 years old.
He was born on 22 July 1932 in Kirov, the Kaluga area, Russia. After graduating from the Bryansk Insti-
tute of Transport Mechanical Engineering, Russia, Frolov started his postgraduate study in 1958 at the RAS
Institute for Engineering Science, Moscow.
In October, 1975, after the death of academician . Blagonravov, Frolov took his place as the head of
the RAS Institute for Engineering Science (a position he held until his death). Frolov developed new scientific
lines of activity at the institute, including vibroacoustics of machinery and equipment, strength of power engi-
neering objects, robotic technology, and biomechanics.
Frolov achieved well-earned international fame due to his interdisciplinary studies in the field of mechanics,
biology, biomechanics, physics, and ergonomics. The studies conducted and developed under his lead solved a
number of urgent problems dealing with the human operator working in the machinery and equipment vibra-
tion environment. The results of his studies were published in basic monographs and
