INTERVIEW STRATEGY
Mission:
1. Help the department to verify the background of the applicant
Type for interviews (Telephone, Group, Individual, Panel, and Assessment Centre)
Lesser time for interviewing unsuitable applicants after you find that he/she cannot fit in your requirements
2. Enhance the chance of choosing the right people
Make sure the applicants are interested in the position
Both parties’ expectation are similar
PREPARE FOR INTERVIEW
Prepare and conducting job analysis
Review and discuss the specification of job opening with department when a position es available
Job Specifications includes position’s responsibilities, requirements, reporting relationship, environmental factors, union status, salary, benefits and growth opportunities
Duties and Responsibilities
Requirements: Tangible and intangible
After you have got enough information, you should turn that information to questions or approaches for assessing the applicant.
PREPARE FOR INTERVIEW
Understanding and avoiding personal bias (Self-fulfilling Prophecies)
should not have any bias before interviewing with the applicant
Smart guy = graduate PHD in MIT (Stereotype)
Applicant difficult to e that initial prejudice in one hour interview
Understand the EO policy
