Abstract: The New-Year Sacrifice is regarded as Lu Xun’s masterpiece by the public, and it es the excellent model of short stories. The story circulates among the people because of its incisive ideological content and remarkable achievements. The heroine, Xianglin’s Wife, makes deep impression on readers. She was the embodiment of the women who suffered persecution and insult in Old China. Her tragedy was a true portrayal of the women who were at the bottom of society. The Scarlet Letter is the first American symbolist novel. Hester Prynne’s tragic experiences reflected the dark rules of Puritan and she germinated the spirit of revolt after suffering mental torments and insult. The two heroines we
