Tough choices and ethical lessons
This unit uses an online video, Endgame: Ethics & Values in America, from the Public Broadcasting System in the United States to look at a situation in which there are a number of tough ethical choices to be made.
While you are watching the film, list some of the ethical choice situations that confront the two main characters, Julia and Alison. You should also click on the links to "ask the characters" and "consult the experts." At a couple of points you will be asked to participate in an on-line poll about what you think Julia and Alison should have done.
When you have finished the film and answered the online poll, return to these notes. At the end of this unit, you will be asked to use the nine-step method presented in Unit A8 to offer your advice to Julia and Alison. But before getting to that point, some ideas are presented for your consideration.
Relevance
You might well be asking, "How is this case relevant to your future work as a CGA?" We can hope that most readers have the good luck not to be confronted with such a dramatic choice situation as presented in Endgame.
