1 Scope
This standard specifies the performance requirements and test method of windshield defroster
system of motor vehicles.
This standard applies to the motor vehicles in Category M1.

3 Definitions
Defrosting system
Defrosting system means the system intended to melt frost or ice on the surface of the windscreen
and thus restore visibility.
Defrosting
Defrosting means the elimination of frost or ice covering the glazed surfaces by the operation of
defrosting or windscreen-wiper systems.
Defrosted area
Defrosted area means the area of glazed surface which has resumed its visibility after defrosting.
4 Performance requirements
Every vehicle shall be equipped with a defrosting system..
20 minutes after the start of the test period, the area A must be at least 80% defrosted.
25 minutes after the start of the test period, the area A’ must be at least 80% defrosted.
40 minutes after the start of the test period, the area B must be at least 95% defrosted.
