Passenger Car--Side Door Strength

1 Scope
This standard specifies strength requirements and test procedures for side doors.
This standard applies to passenger cars.
2 Definitions
Initial crush resistance: The average force required to deform the door over the initial 0 to
152 mm of crush.
Intermediate crush resistance: The average force required to deform the door over the initial 0
to 305 mm of crush.
Peak crush resistance: The largest force recorded over the entire 457 mm crush distance.
3 Requirements
Each vehicle shall be able to meet the requirements of either, at the manufacturer's option,
or when any of its side doors that can be used for occupant egress is tested according to
Section 4.
With any seat that may affect load upon or deflection of the vehicle removed from the vehicle,
each vehicle must be able to meet the requirements as follows:
a. The initial crush resistance shall not be less than 10000N;
b. The intermediate crush resistance shall not be less than 15560N;
c. The peak crush resistance shall not be less than two times the curb weight of the
vehicle or 31120N, whichever is less.
With seats installed in the vehicle, and located in any horizontal or vertical position to which
they can be adjusted, and at any seat
