SOLAR POWER: THE FUTURE OF AUTOMOBILES

Introduction
The world is changing every day. Engineers have to respond to these changes by turning their focus toward the developing issues that the world is facing now and will face in the future [1]. Since we are using natural resources faster than we replace them, the world will one day run out of some of these resources, especially fossil fuels [2]. Therefore there is an imminent need to develop a reliable source of energy. One of the popular alternatives to fossil fuels is solar energy. We have already established a system of channeling the sun’s energy through the use of energy absorbing panels. The main reason that solar energy is not monly used throughout the world is that the panels currently used are expensive and inefficient [2]. Developing a more efficient system of harnessing solar energy for use in automobiles would be extremely beneficial to the world. The improvement of the system would also make it easier for automobile engineers ply with the many ethical codes surrounding their field. Sustainability is a rising concern in the engineering field, and always will be, therefore it is important to develop an awareness of this concern in the minds of engineering students as soon as possible.
