Abstract : The robust estima tion ba sed on equiva lent weights keeps the outsta nding properties of lea st squa res ( LS)
adjustment in processing normal observations. Nevertheless, its robustness is highly related to the initia l va lues. If
the LS estimates, which are insensitive to outliers, are used a s initial va lues it will certa inly impact the robust
characteristics of equivalent weight robust estimates. Compa ratively, the least media n ( LM) estimates are much
robust than LS estimates, but they a puted only with pa rts of observations, and ma ny available observa tions
are not used. We put forwards the median para meter robust estimation a nd present an approximate method to
estimate its breakdown point in finite observa tion cases. By integra ting the a dva nta ges of media n parameter
