文档介绍:MaxStirner's TheEgo and Its Own has been called 'the most
revolutionary[book]ever written'. Firstpublished in1844, Stir
ner'sdistinctive andpowerful polemic sounded thedeath-knell
ofleftHegelianism, withits attack onLudwig Feuerbach, Bruno
Bauer,Moses Hess and others. Itcontains anenduring, and
strikinglywritten,critique ofboth liberalism andsocialism from
theperspective ofan extreme entric individualism. Karl
Marxwas only one of many contemporaries provokedinto a leng
thyrebuttal ofStiroer's argument. More recently, Stiroer has
beenvariously portrayed asa nihilistic anarchist, a precursor
ofNietzsche, a forermmer ofexistentialism, andas manifestly
insane.
Thisedition ofStiroer's prises a revised version of
StevenByington's much-praised translation, together withan
introductionandnotes onthe historical background toStirner's
text.
