Some institutions traditionally place more emphasis on petitive spirit; others use cooperative methods. If I were forced to agree with just one of the two methods, my choice would be for petitive environment.

The main reason why I feel petition is important for the learner is that I know adult life to be difficult. Finding a good job, for example, is an petitive activity. The potentially essful job applicant has to weigh up petition from others. He then has to place himself in a stronger position by gaining more qualifications and experience.

A further reason why I advocate an attitude petition is that people often make great efforts in a contest, particularly if there is a prize or chance of recognition. Official contests can provide a goal and framework for learni
