美国总统就职演说辞中的人际语法隐喻功能分析
摘要
本文从韩礼德的人际语法隐喻观出发,以美国总统就职演说辞为研究对象,
旨在通过分析表达人际意义的语法隐喻形式及其功能,说明人际语法隐喻不仅是
美国总统就职演说辞的一种语言特色,而且对演讲目的的实现具有重要功能。
韩礼德是系统地研究语法隐喻的第一人,其系统功能语法理论的问世标志着
语法隐喻研究的真正开端。虽然韩礼德没有给语法隐喻一个明确的定义,但他对
词汇隐喻和语法隐喻的区分,以及对一致性和非一致性的阐释,使我们一致认为
语法隐喻是语法形式之间的相互转换而引起的意义变异或意义的非一致性体现。
而在人际意义的表达上出现的变异现象则称之为人际语法隐喻。根据语言三大元
功能的实现形式,人际元功能主要由情态系统和语气系统来实现,因此,人际语
法隐喻可以分为情态隐喻和语气隐喻。作者通过统计发现,美国总统就职演说语
篇中大量运用了人际语法隐喻;而对其进行的功能分析则揭示了美国总统就职演
说辞中人际语法隐喻选择的依据,同时也阐释了语言形式如何与功能相结合而达
到不同的交际目的。
对人际语法隐喻进行功能分析,能为不同语篇的研究提供新的视角;而在语
篇中研究人际语法隐喻,则有助于理解和分析语篇,也有利于英语学习者更好地
理解和运用目标语言,从而有效地提高交际能力。

A Functional Analysis of Interpersonal Grammatical
Metaphor in American Presidents’ Inaugural
Addresses
Abstract
In the light of Halliday‟s view of interpersonal grammatical metaphor, the
author of this thesis selects the American presidents‟ inaugural addresses as the object
of this study, attempting to interpret that interpersonal grammatical metaphor not only
is a linguistic feature of American presidents‟ inaugural addresses, but also plays a
significant role in the achievement of the speech purposes through analyzing the
realization forms and functions of interpersonal grammatical metaphor.
Halliday is considered to be the first one to make a systemic research on
grammatical metaphor. The construction of his systemic-functional grammar theory
symbolizes the real beginning of grammatical metaphor study. Although Halliday has
not given us a clear definition of grammatical metaphor, his distinction between
lexical metaphor and grammatical metaphor, and his illustration of congruent and
incongruent forms help e to an agreement that grammatical metaphor is an
incongruent realization or a variant of meaning involving mutual transference of
